Sean O'Hair shot 73-80 and missed the cut in the U.S. Open, but he did lead the field in one stat at Oakmont: He ranked No. 1 in driving distance for the two rounds, averaging 319.3 yards.
For clues into why O'Hair was a trunk-slammer on Friday, take a deeper look at his stats. It wasn't because of fairways hit; O'Hair ranked tied for 33rd. And it certainly wasn't because of greens-in-regulation; O'Hair ranked tied for 15th.
The culprit was putting. With the flat stick in his hand, O'Hair ranked tied for 144th, needing 33 putts on Thursday and 36 on Friday, including three three-putts.
